The Trimper Carousel

The Trimper family has maintained an amusement park in Ocean City, MD since 1900. In 1912 they purchased a menagerie- themed carousel from the Herschell- Spillman Company, North Tonawanda, NY.

A "menagerie" carousal incorporates all sorts of animals, some fanciful, as opposed to just horses.

The carousel was restored in the 1970's by a Ukrainian brother- sister team named the Bilous. Maria Bilous still maintains the painting and various touch- ups.

When I saw the carousel earlier this month, it was closed down for the season, but thanks to Ms. Johnnie Jett, I received permission to photograph this historic merry- go- round.

Great photos!

Sadly we lost our Uncle John Bilous who was part of the dynamic duo that restored this beautiful carousel. My mother (Maria Bilous Schlick) is still maintaining it as well as the rest of the park art. Sometimes I like to google the carousel just to see what people are saying about it so I wanted to thank you for mentioning the artists. Not many people do that.

Thank you so much for sharing these with the world. They are truly beautiful.

ps Johnnie Jett is the best isn't she?

Sincerely,
Titiana Cropper
